When you first embark on a program to lose weight, you go at it with gusto. You’re even ruffled. You know that it won’t be long until you are wearing the jeans you’ve been grim reaper to buy. You know you’re going to be out dancing every weekend. Life is power to be good! A few days later, you’re stuffing your face with pizza and ice cream. What happened? The dream went out the window. You lost your motivation to lose weight.
It isn’t a diet. It’s a lifestyle change.
I would surmise that statement but it has been said so many times I’m not sure the origin could be traced. “Diet” is a bad word. But guess what is even scarier? A lifestyle change! Change can put you into panic mode. Get over it. If you want to lose weight, you will have to change.
You wanted to lose weight, right? Well, you posses a subconscious mind that says otherwise. You have to change your eating habits. You have to pocket money your action habits. You have to change your pastimes. Mentally, this is very scary stuff. The problem is that you didn’t discuss that with your mind. Your zeal for working out and eating fresh spinach is not absorbed into the subconscious mind. The subconscious knows one thing for sure and that is that you have to have that pizza. Pizza is good. You always eat pizza. The great thing about your mind is that it can be told what to believe.
How do you convince your subconscious that you want to lose weight?
1. Instead of thinking in the future, think in the present. It isn’t “I craving to lose weight.” It should be, “I'm losing weight”. Purposely stop and think in the started every time you have a futuristic thought. Putting it in the future just keeps it out of reach.
2. Visualize It. See yourself eating healthy, exercising, looking down at the scale with a smile on your face...
3. If you fall, get back spread again. People don’t fail because they pig out on ice cream. They fail when they actuate they aren’t going to try anymore. So you slipped. Big deal. Start over with the next meal! The more you affirm to your brain that this is how you are going to live, the more your brain believes you.
To lose weight and keep it off, you have to have a contract with yourself; an agreement that states “This is not an option. This is a binding agreement”. Practicing the three crucial methods every day is how you keep your preference.
Motivating yourself to lose weight isn’t easy. It takes a lot of practice. Keep practicing. Eventually you will lose weight and because you practice non stop, you will be successful at keeping it off.
